According to Catechism of the Catholic Church,” the Christian family is the first place of education in prayer. Based on the sacrament of marriage, the family is the "domestic church" where God's children learn to pray "as the Church" and to persevere in prayer. For young children in particular, daily family prayer is the first witness of the Church's living memory as awakened patiently by the Holy Spirit.” (CCC 2685)

Education in the faith by the parents should begin in the child’s earliest years. This already happens when family members help one another to grow in faith by the witness of a Christian life in keeping with the Gospel. Family catechesis precedes, accompanies, and enriches other forms of instruction in the faith. Parents have the mission of teaching their children to pray and to discover their vocation as children of God. The parish is the Eucharistic community and the heart of the liturgical life of Christian families; it is a privileged place for the catechesis of children and parents.” (CCC 2226)

To enhance the spiritual growth of our budding generation, we started catechism classes in October 2011 at St. Christopher Church, Holsworthy under the guidance of Rev. Fr. Augustine Tharappel with approximately 32 children. We had various challenges like finding resources, catechists and room for classes. The first set of Catechism books were blessed by Fr.Joseph Kandathiparambil (Director Good News Retreat Centre, Pampady) on 20th November 2011 at St. Christopher’s Church, Holsworthy.

By the Grace of our Lord, today we have 136 children aging from 4 years to 16 years studying catechism at St. Joseph’s Church, Moorebank on every Sunday classes from 3.45 - 5 PM with a well organised and meticulous team of catechists under the guidance of Rev. Fr Thomas Alukka. Religious completions and exams are conducted yearly followed by a Sunday School Anniversary Day.
